Completing the Editing

This was the last day of my film production. I reached the end and I’m very glad I did. Starting the day off I pulled up the IMovies software. After previously splitting up the scenes. I went back and placed the exact transitions. The one’s I wanted for the end result film. I set the over laying time and delay time. Then moved on to my next task. Placing the soundtrack. I did this by splicing the scenes into more clips. Mainly because some scenes only have music playing for parts of it. Instead of the whole scene then the movie would be a song instead. After placing transitions and the soundtrack, the film was completed. I just had to slight adjustment from scene to scene. In all I’m really glad to be done. This production wasn’t as fun as I thought it would be. Last year was definitely more entertaining. However, this is only due to the amount of trouble I have been having. Way too many unseen setbacks. Not just normal ones too the kind of set back that strain a person. Like York, that’s my real life animal I was very stressed about what was happening with him. Enough of that though, it’s finished. Now for the remaining part of this class.

Editing the First Half

Started the editing process today. It is fairly simple. At least with my editing software it is. As explained previously I use IMovies. Very easy to learn editing. While all of it looks very well done. So I actually favor IMovies deeply. So starting today off. I pieced all the clips together. Creating about 6 mins of material. Then I started cutting time off the clips. For most it would just be a few seconds off the end. A few needed the seconds taken from the start. Also a combination of both. Lastly for the day I just divided up the scenes from the clips. Allowing them to have sounds/ music or transitions to be added later on. Which will be the main last things to do next editing day. For the music I decided to stick with the IMovies music. It’ll be easier to add to the clips. Plus I can avoid the situation with copyright and permission.  In all I feel today was productive

Last Film Day

After a long month we have finally finished the filming part of production. I’m honestly just glad to be done filming. Now that the hard part is out of the way. I can move forward to the easy part. Probably my favorite part as well. The editing, like last year I wanna keep it simplistic. So today, we filmed the following 6-10 pages on the storyboard. York was having a rough day. His paws were in pain. I had to double up on medication. Then give him a few break in between scenes. The best part today had to be the last scene. It was sooo easy. I literally just laid down with my best friend. I also loved the car scenes. It was something different. In AS level last year I didn’t have a car yet so I couldn’t have used it in scenes. Now that I have a license at my expense it was easy. My least favorite. Obviously following a common theme. Scenes involving the control of York. They are always very difficult, he’s a very active animal.

Halfway Through Filming

Today was a productive film day. After dusting myself off from another setback. Only moving now on forth. Today we got to about the 6th storyboard page. This were the meat of the story comes into play. Introduction of the new characters. Such as Jeo’s mother and father. Also the important mysterious thief. The facts of York going missing. Obviously the toll York being gone is taking on Jeo. Then the deference of scenery shifting. Also the fast pace of which. Since it is a short film. The filming stopped at the scene of Jeo leaving in his car to find York. Obviously with the incident I can’t use my car. The work around I’ll be using is going to be my real life mother’s car. So not a hard fix. In all today was good and productive. The hardest parts of today definitely deal with the dog as an actor. Absolutely it is hard to have him play with the ball in one scene as perfectly as you want. Then also have it listen perfectly and stay still. Even worse when you have to make it look like the dog is under the control of someone. Especially when that someone isn’t the real owner so then the dog has no interest. We made it work however and continued on. My scene was probably the easiest. I just had to make faces to convey trouble and speak a little. Not amazing looking but not hard.

Very Bad Month

Sadly I faced another setback. This has not been the best month for me. First my star actor was badly injured. Unable to film. Now my car. Which was needed for several scenes has been badly damaged. Making it unusable in filming. However in terms of the car it will be okay. I was not at fault. The person who’s fault it was is my neighbor so he can’t escape paying it. He is fixing the car. With no financial burden on me. So with this accident I needed time to recover. It happened the night of Christmas eve. It is now the 27 and I will be filming later today. As theatre says the show must go on. I’m on limited time and can’t continue to stall. From this blog on the rest of the blog with only be on the production. I want to produce 2 more film blogs. Followed by 2 editing blogs. I will finish my film by deadline.

First Film Day

Today I finally began filming. Through all the set back and fighting the deadline. My friend and I were able to film at least 1 minute worth of film. Which isn’t a lot at all. However, with the amount of time I’ve been able to pull together. I think it was a good amount of material. I will be fighting to get the rest of the time. I’m just glad I got the wheel to start turning. Hopefully I won’t face another set back. I don’t think I’ll be able to pull together after another. York is healthy and wasn’t giving any injury troubles today. So on to what we filmed. We basically just got the introduction of the film. About 3 full scenes. Which translates to about 2 pages on my storyboard. We had the beginning walk. Which was hard to figure out the angling to get both me and York in frame. Then the establishing shot at the school was probably the easiest scene. The scene portraying my character enjoying time with his dog and looking back was hard for me. Saying as I am no actor. By far the hardest scene was York’s peeing scene. It’s this one because York hasn’t been walking lately. The route we walked to film is the usual route I take him on normal life walks. So I know where he stops to pee. However, because of the accident he hasn’t walked in weeks and his pattern changed. So took a few tries and what I have isn’t the cleanest, but I’ll make it work

Clearance To Film

After a few weeks of waiting. York’s injury has healed. Not completely but enough to a point where I’m allowed to take him out. He had his bandages taken off. However, he still needs his cone on. Luckily I can just temporarily remove it during filming. This is really great news. I was worried on not being able to meet the filming deadline. However with this new development I can begin filming right away. Though I am very behind in schedule. I will be able to cram the days into a few days. Instead of a few weekends like intended originally. There will just be no room for error. I will have to utilize all the time I have. Originally on my scheduling sheet. I would have finished all my filming a week ago. Then I would be at the end of my editing process. So visualizing that really but into perspective. What matters most though is that my star actor York is okay and back in working conditions. Not only that but he is my literal dog and I’m very he is safe. So i have faith things will work out

Filming Set Back

So this week one of the most essential actors got hurt. My dog York. I was supposed to start filming this weekend. However this Wednesday York got out of my house. Then had his feet ran over by a car. He is okay and lucky didn’t get too injured. He has no broken bones or life risking injuries. However his left front foot was ripped open almost to the bone. His paw pads on his feet were hanging be the thread. It took up most of the day taking care of him. It takes most of these days looking after him now that he is hurt. With this set back i might have to cram all the filming in one weekend. He has to get his bandages changed and fixed every 3-4 days so if it heals fast. We might be lucky. However right now he can walk and be productive, but the doctor told me to keep him in bed as much as possible. I think in the long run we’ll be fine in terms of filming. It definitely add a little more stress on me though. What’s most Important is that York is okay. The other things aren’t as crucial. Plus there are some scenes that York isn’t involved with so I can film those scenes instead for right now. Only time to move forward.
