Critical Reflection

  1. 1. How do your products represent social groups or issues?

My product represents social groups of those who are very close with their pets. Those who view their animal more of a friend then others around them or human friends.  My product does this because the film is based around a bond between my characters close bond with his dog. It appeals to the groups of socially awkward individuals or those with difficulty of making friends. Which is why they would have a per/companion for company, so they aren’t completely alone. Which isn't the case with the character in my film, but that situation can be inferred. Social Issues represented are losing a loved one wither it is a pet or a family member. Which is a very common and real thing in the world that mostly everyone experiences at a point Both are devastating to a person. Being one of the points in my product lost is a crucial item shown. Also, Social Groups of mystery are represented. My product represents this group because my film is a mystery film based to why Jeo's loved one went missing. Is also followed by mysterious occurrences in the film. This is a large target social group.

  1. 2. How do the elements of your production work together to create a sense of ‘branding’?

The elements of my production work together going from different levels of emotion in the actors, from happy to distress and anger to then be relieved following loss to finishing with content and humbleness. It creates a branding accepting and appreciating your loved ones because at any random moment they may not be there anymore. The element of being a mystery allowing to branch out in other genre help blend in elements of ownership. Doing with by showing York’s toll on Jeo when he goes missing. Companionship is shown with Jeo and York spending time together. Lastly drama, comes into play with the exchange of info scenes. Creating branding for many things for one my film can brand out pet stores. Even auto shops with the many scenes in a car.

        3. How do your produces engage with the audience?

My produces engage with the audience in many formats. Through social media such as instagram, facebook, and twitter. All items of the film package. Where these account give attention to my potential audience and keep them in the loop with production. Posting multiple pictures with comment sections open so they can engage as much as they would like to. Then a website which is also apart of the package. A website with interactive menu switching and info filled which allows the audience to attend anything they would like in relation to my film. In my film the audience is engaged when the note from the mystery man is revealed. It’s has its own scene for the audience to read it. Also the audience can try to make clues for the mystery of how York went missing. My production gives plenty of opportunities for audience engagement .

        4. How did your research inform your products and the way they use or challenge conventions?

My research major-idly benefited my website. In terms of research on marketing. I had no idea how to do anything website related and I ended up figuring it all out through class research and wix tutorials. The genre research showed conventions of lighting and camera angles, movements, shots. This research showed in my production as I used lots of the normal conventions especially in the aspect of camera shots. However I definitely challenged the convention of lighting. Usually there are scenes of ominous lighting and darker rooming to create a mysterious vibe or thrilling. The way I challenged this is I kept the light relatively good and bright. Not really any scenes where the light is dark dark. I was shooting for more of a Scooby doo light mystery and not a gone girl thriller. Hopefully the decision pays off and my production comes to success.

Last Of The Package

Finishing the last of the package requirements. I completed the social media aspect. Well I had it all done before but all the accounts were empty. The only thing on any of them were the profile pictures. So I had to add the “production company”. Enter into the bio all the film information. Starting with the film title. Then the premier date. Ending it off with a post or two. Show an aspect of the film or characters. After that the last last part is the post card/ poster. I honestly completely forgot about this and have definitely putted it off last minute. However, I made it today so not too last minute. I just used the generic photo I have been using a cross the platforms. Added the title to it. Then placed some of the review symbols. Along with the premier date. Also putting in the synopsis so people understand the movie. I did this on my phone. Surprisingly using a snapchat editor.

Finishing Website

Now that I completed my film. I still had a few items left over to do. One being the website. Another being all four branches of social media. Also the CR. So I started with the website. I have slowly been working on it through the time the project has been assigned. Though that only amounted to the links and the websites structure. I still had to add in all the writing of reviews and the synopsis. Along with other attention pulling writing. Then all the picturing for the film, and cast head shots. So I placed the pictures first. Two of York kinda as the marketing picture. Then the “head shot” of York, Jaden, and myself placed in the cast section. Then in the cast section I detailed our roles that we played in the film’s production. After that I went to the top and gave a synopsis of my film in the first section. After that some film festival information. Lastly reviews from well known critic companies along with what they thought of the film. The website came along nicely so all that is let in the social media package is the social media. Which is all set up I just have to through some pics and make it look marketable

Completing the Editing

This was the last day of my film production. I reached the end and I’m very glad I did. Starting the day off I pulled up the IMovies software. After previously splitting up the scenes. I went back and placed the exact transitions. The one’s I wanted for the end result film. I set the over laying time and delay time. Then moved on to my next task. Placing the soundtrack. I did this by splicing the scenes into more clips. Mainly because some scenes only have music playing for parts of it. Instead of the whole scene then the movie would be a song instead. After placing transitions and the soundtrack, the film was completed. I just had to slight adjustment from scene to scene. In all I’m really glad to be done. This production wasn’t as fun as I thought it would be. Last year was definitely more entertaining. However, this is only due to the amount of trouble I have been having. Way too many unseen setbacks. Not just normal ones too the kind of set back that strain a person. Like York, that’s my real life animal I was very stressed about what was happening with him. Enough of that though, it’s finished. Now for the remaining part of this class.

Editing the First Half

Started the editing process today. It is fairly simple. At least with my editing software it is. As explained previously I use IMovies. Very easy to learn editing. While all of it looks very well done. So I actually favor IMovies deeply. So starting today off. I pieced all the clips together. Creating about 6 mins of material. Then I started cutting time off the clips. For most it would just be a few seconds off the end. A few needed the seconds taken from the start. Also a combination of both. Lastly for the day I just divided up the scenes from the clips. Allowing them to have sounds/ music or transitions to be added later on. Which will be the main last things to do next editing day. For the music I decided to stick with the IMovies music. It’ll be easier to add to the clips. Plus I can avoid the situation with copyright and permission.  In all I feel today was productive

Last Film Day

After a long month we have finally finished the filming part of production. I’m honestly just glad to be done filming. Now that the hard part is out of the way. I can move forward to the easy part. Probably my favorite part as well. The editing, like last year I wanna keep it simplistic. So today, we filmed the following 6-10 pages on the storyboard. York was having a rough day. His paws were in pain. I had to double up on medication. Then give him a few break in between scenes. The best part today had to be the last scene. It was sooo easy. I literally just laid down with my best friend. I also loved the car scenes. It was something different. In AS level last year I didn’t have a car yet so I couldn’t have used it in scenes. Now that I have a license at my expense it was easy. My least favorite. Obviously following a common theme. Scenes involving the control of York. They are always very difficult, he’s a very active animal.
